a temporary hiatus…

I’m sure some of you have noticed that it’s been a little quiet over here lately. I’ve been crazy busy and right now c+s has landed on the back burner. I’m making the effort to get organized and reign in my focus. Lately, blogging for c+s has felt like a chore and that’s not what I want at all. I’ve been focusing on another project and right now, it’s my priority. So, I’m taking a step back, making plans, organizing, and sorting everything out.

I will say that I have one amazing opportunity at work that I will definitely be sharing with you all soon! In the mean time, I can be found here. Or you can always reach me via email or Twitter.

When my hiatus does come to an end, c+s should be back and better than ever!

dream kitchen

While the mister and I are still years away from owning a home, it doesn’t mean I don’t spend ample time browsing for ideas. Whether we buy and renovate, find the perfect move-in-ready home, or build from the ground up I love finding spaces for future inspiration. Topping my list of future wants? A huge kitchen with adequate space for cooking and entertaining!

While the kitchen in our townhouse is a nice size for an apartment, it’s definitely lacking space. We only have two drawers! Enough for utensils, but what about ladles, salad servers, tongs, etc? I love baking and my fiance loves cooking so the more cabinet, drawer, and counter space, the better!

Here are a few kitchens and elements that I am loving at the moment:

From top to bottom: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |

What tops your “must-have” list for your future home? A large kitchen? Entertaining space? A pool?

Or, if you own a home already, what was the number one thing that sold you on it?

the bunny print dress.

Hey Monday. I’m not ready for the weekend to end, so I’ve been browsing my iPhone pictures from the weekend.

I had to share one of the dresses I picked up this weekend - yes, those are tiny bunnies! I never find any clothes in TJ Maxx, but this weekend I found this dress. I thought the print was adorable, but since the dress is in juniors sizing I never dreamed in a million years that it would fit or look good even if it did, but I thought it would be fun to try on.

I’m sure many people would disagree that it was not a great purchase, but seriously, putting it on made all the difference. The bunnies actually look like dots from only a couple of feet away. It reminds me of something Zooey Deschanel would wear, especially with that ivory belt. I wanted to hate it, but the fit was great, the print was cute, and I couldn’t pass it up!

Did you get into anything fun this weekend? Score any great deals while shopping? Or find a bunny print dress of your own?

I loved this quote when I read it last week. I think we all become so consumed by other things going on in our lives that we forget to take a moment and realize when we’re happy. Those moments can be refreshing, if not altogether extraordinary. I don’t know about you, but I am definitely going to make the effort start being more present in those moments, to step back and think about just how nice things are.

summer essentials under $53

The summer heat has been intense lately. Not only is it uncomfortable to partake in typical summer activities like outdoor concerts, amusement parks, or even trips to the beach, but before you get out the door you have to dress for the occasion. The best solution? Keep is simple, cool, and comfortable. Here are a few of my summer essentials that have been making things easier without completely sacrificing style:

J. Crew 4” chino short in neon pink $45 / 2 Old Navy Classic flip flops $2.50  / 3 Cesca Rope Handle Woven Stripe Tote $18 / 4 Linea Pelle Linked skinny versatile belt $53 / 5 Forever 21 Cateye Sunglasses $5.80

1. Brightly colored shorts are some of my favorites this year, especially from places like J. Crew and Gap. A higher waistband and tab closure keeps the shorts from riding down low on your hips or bunching awkwardly, so much more attractive ladies!

2. We can all Instagram the cutest sandals and wedges, but I’m willing to bet almost everyone reading this post owns multiple pairs of these Old Navy flip flops and wears them constantly. They’re comfortable. They work with most summer wear. And in the event that you break them, your pup chews them up, or you lose one - they’re so cheap that replacing them is no problem.

3. If you’re a fan of flowy dresses and tops but don’t enjoy the shapelessness of some and the baby bump look that others create, a great skinny belt is the way to go.

4. Totes are a great summer bag, even if you don’t carry one everyday. You can throw in items that may not fit in your regular handbag like sunblock or bottled water and head out the door.

5. More than anything else on this list sunglasses are extremely essential to protect your eyes if you’re spending time outdoors. I actually own two pairs of the cateye sunglasses above. I break sunglasses so easily (bye bye favorite Cole Haan shades!) investing in an expensive pair doesn’t make sense. Stores like Forever 21 and Target offer stylish options without emptying your wallet. Plus, cheap shades mean you can buy several styles!

Current sneaker lust. I am in love with all things navy as of late, but if you’re not these are also available in red.

Keds Champion Sneakers, Madewell $40

This neutral tone ikat skirt is such a great piece! If the style of this skirt looks like something you have in your closet for work, it’s likely that you have a collection of mostly solid skirts with a nice mix of printed and solid tops to match. For a nice change - get yourself a printed skirt ladies! I suggest pairing this great print with a brightly colored top and your favorite summer sandals. If you’re afraid a bold, bright color is too much for an important meeting it’s also perfect when toned down with a simple white blouse as well.

friday, friday

Do you have songs that just make you think of the summer season? Even if you don’t have specific memories, it just resonates so much with that time of year? I’m talking afternoon driving with your windows down and hair blowing in the wind, music that you play in the background while you’re grilling out with your friends, and even music to pick you up on a Friday afternoon when you’re so close to walking out the door for a weekend of freedom.

I know I’m not the only person that has ever listened to “Sweetness” blaring through my car speakers in the sticky, summer heat -although I may be one of the few to admit it :) Whether these songs remind you of summer, get you through the afternoon, or just introduce you to some new artists I hope you enjoy! Feel free to share your own favorites as well!

1. “Sweetness” by Jimmy Eat World
2. “Everybody Talks” by Neon Trees
3. “Take Off Your Colours” by You Me At Six
4. “Sore Thumb” by The Format
5. “Payphone” by Maroon 5 w/ Wiz Khalifa
6. “Tongue Tied” by Grouplove
7. “My Body” by Young The Giant
8. “Soul Meets Body” by Death Cab For Cutie
9. “MoneyGrabber” by Fitz and The Tantrums
10. “Electric Feel” by MGMT
